Fishing Report 02 March 2022
Weather for the Week.
Looking at the weather forecast
tomorrow is a great day for rock robbing, looking outside the door it does not
look that good. Very hot days with brown water seems to be the best time for
flat fish however we got the brown water but no heat.
Lagoon
JG got his first, Ryan got one of
6.8kg with line coming from its mouth so he cut it back to its mouth and Wesley
got smoked by a monster….. yip I am taking about the emperor of the river,
river snapper, while most of them were caught at the mouth area Wesley went
inland and fished between the steel bridge and the N2 bridge and caught quite a
few and also got a big hiding, we know Wesley and it is not often he gets smoked.
Besides river snapper taking centre stage nice size river bream, pickhandles
and malabar rockcod are been caught.
Surf
Surf fishing or Rock Robbing or in our
case Sand Robbing has not been setting the world alight, most of the guys
fishing during the week are fishing for edibles and they are managing some shad,
snapper kob and spotted pompano however mummy sharks have been at it again and
we are also getting catches of baby spinners with the odd milky in between,
something I have noticed is the milkies are not in big numbers as a few years
ago. There a very big fish in the surf zone as anglers are getting smashed
within seconds of getting picked up, maybe the guys that fish heavy should come
fish here on the main and doggy beach and see what it is, me thinks zambies or
java as it is this time of year every time when Chris went down to the main
beach he caught several of these, the biggest that year was a 337kg zambie caught
in the mid break with 7 shad proppies in its mouth.
Ski boat
The fish keep coming, we are having a
very good game fish season so far this year and when weather permits the guys
are getting nice fish. Uit Lyne Uit fished twice over the weekend and young Dominic
stole the show, launching for the first time through the surf he caught the
best fish on the boat, a couta, YFT, and the biggest Indian mirror fish anyone
had seen for some time. We had several boats from out of town and all the guys
were chuffed with the conditions of the ramp and the fact there was a tractor
to assist. Bottom fishing seems to have taken a step backwards as the guys
fishing the shallower reefs have turned their attention to natal snoek AKA
queen mackerel.
