Lagoon.
Whose fish is
it? Young Adam was fishing with bait and artificial lures while casting out a lure his bait rob
went so he gave the rod to Gael and attended to his bait rod, while Gael was retrieving
the Crank bait a River Gurnard took the lure which Gael landed, I say 50/50.
The estuarine system is fishing well although on Tuesday it as well as the surf
was very quiet for some strange reason. So far this year 3 species of Rays have
been caught giving anglers a real hiding on light tackle, Diamond, Honeycomb
and a Brown have been landed. For the crab hunters there are a lot in the
lagoon and the main car park area seems to be the best place to catch them.
Surf.
We need to help
each other here big time with regards to fishing The Banks. In order to get
there we need to travel through and park on Mondi property, this is private
land and Mondi security will ask you to leave the land as they are acting
within their rights ,please turn around and do so without making a scene the
next thing is the litter left on the beach, behind the dunes, along the path
and of course in the car parks, clean up around you before fish while you fish
and after you fish and take the lot home because we are in talks with Mondi
about getting the permit system going again and we don’t want them to find reasons
why they should not continue to issue permits to gain access to such a great
fishing spot. It takes a few anglers to spoil it for the rest of us. Fishing
here has been good this year so far with the first good haul of Diamonds been
made yesterday ie more than 3 were caught buy the same angling group you do
need a long cast to get to them as they seem to be feeding over the mid bank,
in my mind diamond season really gets going when they are been caught behind
the shore break and everybody who goes fishing gets at least one. The Shad have
been going wild but most of them are small and are full of roe still so if you
get a female please put her back, you can tell by the fact she is fat and the
males are very thin, anyway a sub 40cm does not have a lot of meat on it so
chuck it back and you will get the 40cm plus ones, my informants tell me the
biggest this year is just over 5kg but a lot of 2kg plus have been caught.
Snapper is still about so hand in for one. There are a lot of baby sharks and
they are hungry please handle them with care and release them even if you hate
them for biting the bait it is not a great idea to be cruel to them.
Ski Boat
So far this
year there have been more fishing days than the whole of December and the guys who
can find the time to go out have been rewarded with good catches although no
game fish has been caught they are there, on 2 occasions the Snoek have come into
the surf zone chasing sprats between the mid break and back line which make me
think we should be looking for them in shallow water like the Wreck, Glenton
Reef and Home Reef. I believe Nanook got its first Couta of the year probably
at High Point as they like fishing there.
