Lagoon.
Well what an
interesting week at the lagoon this week there was a report of 16 Nondies been
caught, they are also known as Mini Kob or Boulenger’s Croaker I have not seen
or heard of them been caught here before they don’t grow very big and take a variety
of baits. Could this mean the lagoon is healthy and that is why they are here,
please send a picture if you get one. The gill netters are at it again and the
parks board recovered nets again during the week. Please report when you see
nets.
Surf.
Fishing has
been slow during the week with Anglers complaining about getting a lot of small
bites, could this have been the Nondies as they have little mouths? Nondies
also make good live bait. Small Shad have been caught during the week at various
places, we have not seen these for ages, normally they are here in the summer
but this summer there were a few of them. They make good live bait for Garrick
and Kob but please make sure if you using them for live bait they are size (30cm).
Small Kob are plentiful please return them. There are still reports of a big
diamond in the main beach area, I am not sure if it is the same one but still
it is fun to catch them.
Ski Boat
Today is a
great day for fishing although the swell was up this morning it is forecast to
drop during the course of the day. The outlook for ski boat fishing over the weekend
does not look that clever with strong winds forecast for both days. I believe
the Snoek are still been cheeky and are not interested in baits, I hope this
changes today.
Next events.
We are holding a fishing clinic on
the 31 August in the main car park at the lagoon, it is free to enter and we
will be demonstrating different types of traces to target River Bream and we
will also discuss the best places to target them by trying to use their behavior
to enhance our chances of catching one.
