Lagoon.
Lots of Grunter, River Bream and Shad have been caught during the week,
we think the Shad are in the Lagoon because of the adverse sea conditions
although the sea is settling I think the Shad will hang around as there is an
abundance of food for them, they have mostly been caught on live bait with
small mullet been their favorite however Glassies and Thorn Fish should also
entice them. We have incoming tide in the afternoon into the evening so this
would be a good time to fish, this weekend is neap tide so there will not be a
large amount of water movement.
Surf.
For the Kob fishermen we have taken delivery of Octopus Lures in glow
format at 6.25cm, perfect to attract the big one as most of the Kob been landed
at the moment are sub 60 most been 55-57 cm or just undersize, remember I of
over 60cm per person if caught from the side , harbor or estuary. A Garrick was
landed in Richards Bay harbor this week so guys it is time although a bit early
( but what fish have been on time this last year), these fellas need to pass
here to get to Richards Bay, the banks at the mouth make them perfect for
wading on and best baits are live or plugs and poppers. Conditions for fishing
this weekend are the best they have been for a while. It will be most angler
like to sit at home and watch rugger drinking coffee get out there. Good spots
to try will be the whole to the North of Doggies, Shangri La Beach and the
Banks. Further South Lucky dip at Amatikulu will not be a waste of a drive.
There are a lot of small sharks about 1-1.2m long in the surf, we are desperate
for a photo so we can identify them.
Ski Boat.
After the excitement of last weekend this weekend will
have far better conditions to fish in and murphy’s law big Couta will be
caught, 2 years ago the weekend after the Couta Classic out shop boat got one
of 28kg in the area around “Telkom”. I know of several boats planning to go out
tight lines. With this weekend being neap tide there should be a lot of water
in the mouth to get back in if you coming back before low tide in the
afternoon.
