Lagoon
Several species were caught over the weekend comprising mainly
of River Bream and Thorn Fish, Silago’s keep popping up even in the surf, and
maybe it is their breeding time. The locals were seen scratching around in the
mud and the guys observing them thought they were catching Clams however it
turned out to be swimming Prawns buried in the mud no wonder they are not been
caught in the nets, maybe they lay their eggs in the mud, I can’t think why
they would be in the mud and not swimming about.
Surf
Big fat Shad all over the place, Saturday saw a nice run
both at Lucky Dip and the Shangri La beaches but not many on the main beach.
Some size Kob were caught on the main beach just before it got dark. With Low
tide been early in the morning this week will be good to fish the morning
sessions on the pushing water or again late at night. Ideal for the campers as
they are not restricted by the 10 pm rule. The Hot spots at the moment seem to
be Lucky Dip and Shangri La beaches but don’t discount the main beach as over a
period of a year it produces the most fish.
Ski boat
On Friday morning we are going to the
mouth to photograph the channels and lines to take when launching, we will be
doing this early so the surf conditions should be similar to the weekend. We
will draw the lines on the photos and post them here and on the ski boat club
page. Ski boat fishing over the weekend was relatively good on Friday and
Saturday with reports of Tuna, Couta and a Rainbow Runner been boated. On Sunday a Couta of 20kg
was boated at Pats together with 3 smaller ones. Bottoms on Sunday was very
slow however over the weekend as whole it was not too bad with Lanterns, Rubber
lips, Slinger and Squaretail Cob been caught.
