Fishing Report 25

Weather for the weekend.
Friday
W gusting 4 then during the late morning it swings to an S gusting 9
sunny skies with a max of 25. Wave height 1.8-1.5 period 10 barometer
1010-1013.
High Tide 06.52 Low 00.45.
Saturday
W gusting 6 swinging to a SW gusting 10 by late afternoon. Sunny with a
max of 25. Wave height 1.6-1.4 period 9 Barometer 1014-1016-1015.
High Tide 07.34 Low 01.27.
Sunday
NW gusting 3 before swinging to an E gusting 12 by late afternoon. Partly
cloudy with a max of 25. Wave height 1.4 period 17 (note, normally the bigger
the period the bigger the swell.)

Lagoon.
The color of the water in the lagoon is returning back to normal and in
spite of the dirty water earlier in the week a nice size Squaretail Kob was
landed to the left of the main car park. Some news in from Amatikulu from Matt
the owner of the Hatcheries. One of the local called Chris reports the Grunter
are a nice size and very actively feeding on the Sand Prawns these can be
caught right in front of the resort. There are a lot of River Bream been caught
and shoals of fishing moving about, these are not mullet so I suspect they are
Kob or Shad, my clues or reasoning is Lucky Dip a few Km up the road is famous
for these fish. There is a species of fish that has come into the Lagoon to
feed on the Muscles, I am not sure what species this is. On Sunday after work I
intend taking a trip there to take Photos to show you what the area looks like.
Surf.
After the incumbent weather to the south of us had subdued we still had
rough seas to deal with and a side wash to match, we expect the side wash to
slow down from today however having battled the side wash all week a group of
locals headed to Shari La Beach at Port Dunford this morning to fish in the
channel at the river mouth, the idea being the water coming out of the mouth
heading against the side wash should nullify it. Fish have been caught during
the week in spite of the wash but not many apart from the regular fish, Shad etc.
a Southern Pompano and a Silago (Banana fish) were caught, no reports of non Eds.
Some good spots to try over the weekend apart from Port Dunford will be The Banks,
to the right of the main beach and Lucky Dip at Dogantweni (Amatikulu River
mouth area). With Low tide around lunch time the afternoon pushing in water
will be a good time to fish.
Ski Boat.
At last a good weekend for fishing from today. A visit
to Gerries is a must as most of the Couta caught to date in local waters have
come from there. Sunday been Neap Tide should make launching and returning
through the mouth so much easier. Earlier in the week 2 jet skis went out in
that back swell and managed very few fish, most of what they caught was
undersize and only a few Squaretail Kob were boated.
