Lagoon.
River Bream and Malabar Rockcod seem to be on the bite at the moment,
the Malabar are taking big fleshy baits as well as artificials. The Slender
Moray Eels seem to have left the lagoon again or are full of prawns, I know
people don’t like catching them but the big ones give a nice fight on light
tackle and they bite, handle with care. Try get into the mouth area early in the
morning or late afternoon as they seems to enhance your chances of catching a
Squaretail Kob of size i.e. greater than 60cm, you may only keep 1 if caught of
the beach or in the estuary even if you on a boat. The weather looks good for
the weekend so get out there and make the most of it.
Surf.
We fished Port Dunford twice the week and although fishing was slow we still
managed some Edibles amongst the rats and mice, 2 nice Diamonds were landed as
well as 2 small Zambies/Java Sharks ( the reason why I put it like this is because
they looked like Java Sharks but were not slimy more “dry”). 2 Anglers lost concentration
whilst handling one of the Diamonds and they both got their fingertips bittern,
they have very sharp tiny teeth, use your fishing cap or a glove when handling
them. The was a lot of Sprats in the mid break with bird activity which was fun
the watch and we suspect the fish were full of Sprats, the other theory fishing
was slow right across the bay is the water is very warm and it seems to “make
the fish go to sleep”. The weather is holding and hopefully the cold water
comes into the surf zone. The big Shad are about and are very quick to take
bait and normally don’t give you a second chance so leave your rod in your “pension
pipe” at your peril. The will be guys doing Drone Fishing at Doggies beach tomorrow
morning very early for those who are interested so see how it works, I am sure
they guys won’t mind answering some questions.
Ski boat.
Tomorrow seems to be a popular decision to launch and looking at the
weather it will be a correct one. There is a lot of bird activity in the bay so
maybe we will see game fish been boated, the water colour and temperature bodes
well for this, tight lines.
Next events.
We have an 8 sleeper house (can sleep 10 as it
has 2 double beds) should a group want to hire it, it is self-catering with
ample bait storage space.
