Lagoon.
Some nice big Shad hanging around the mouth in the 2-3kg range and they
were very keen on paddle tails (my informant made a point of saying they
released them) further into the lagoon it was mainly small Grunter that were feeding,
These guys fished the SW on Wednesday and put in 2 hard sessions, hats off to
them the wind pumped and it was not till Thursday when the wind had dropped and
the lagoon started getting its colour back that the fish came back on the bite.
They did have a big pickup on something big but after a good run it dropped the
bait, me thinks a big diamond. Shad and Snapper Kob do come into the lagoon especially
at this time of year, sometimes you can see the Shad ‘Finning” put wire on and
use high swimming artificials especially Strike Pro Poppers.
Surf
So far this week today has been the best for surf fishing and the
weekend looks good as well, the side wash is dissipating however and I quote my
informant “ there is still a bit of snot in the water” so there you have it, I
think he means weed, bless him. This morning’s action on the main beach beside
nice size Shad were some Kob over 2kg caught on the mid bank very early this
morning on Chokka Sard Combo’s, if you can’t caste far wade in as far as you
can then give it a crack. Diamonds are here of varying sizes liking fleshy
baits and while fishing for them there is a good chance of getting a Raggie. We
are still awaiting the arrival of the “summer “Diamonds, this 70kg plus fellas.
On Monday evening one of our informants took his Diawa Mag Seal 6000 for a evening
jog and hooked into a 42kg Diamond “ it went left then right then I
straightened out and brought him in like a ski plank”, bait used Mac cutlets
wrapped around some Chokka.
Ski Boat.
Today and tomorrow are good days for fishing over the
weekend, the water colour is improving after the storms. Our boat is out at the
moment and one of the crew who was out with us a few weeks ago had a unusual
experience, he bought up 3 fish at once and while he was untangling them he
thought he would sit on his rod, unfortunately he must have moved as his rod
went overboard anyway it was time to retrieve this rod and they started winding
the braid around a bottle and were using flick sticks to try “jig” the rod but
all attempts proved worthless any way the angler continued with line retrieval
until somehow the clutch engaged and the rod was finally bought to the surface
any way after overcoming that he still won 5 of the 9 skins on offer that day.
For those that don’t play skins to win a skin it is the biggest fish caught on
that reef and you can play a 9 reef or 18 reef skins, just something to do for
fun.
