Weather for the weekend.
Friday
W gusting 9 first thing then swings during the late morning to a SW
gusting 9 then climbs to 22 by the evening. Sunny with a max of 22. Wave height
1.7 period 9 barometer 1022-1019.
High Tide 05.17 Low 11.17
Saturday
WNW first thing gusting 5 then later morning swings to an E gusting 10.
Sunny with a max of 24. Wave height 2.1 dropping to 1.6 period 9 barometer 1019
– 1017.

N gusting 3 then swings to an E gusting 16 during the afternoon, Sunny
with a max temp of 24. Wave height 1.34 period 9.

Lagoon.
Scylla Serrata or mud crab. These fellas breed in our lagoon and one of
my informants who did his masters on this species says our lagoon is the Southernmost
breeding area on our coast line, but I hear you say you can get them in the
Knysna Lagoon and you are correct, I put them there. Seriously although mating
takes place in the lagoon the female leaves the lagoon or estuary and goes out
to sea and releases her eggs and if a Ragged Tooth Shark does not get her she
returns safely, the males do not leave the lagoon. The spawn becomes plankton
and as the plankton develops they make their way back into the estuarine system
and that is why you get them as far south as Knysna, growing 5cm in the first
year and 15cm by year three, the size limit is 14cm and you need to tick no 8
on your license application form to catch them, you may catch 3 per day with a
rod and line with a hook.
Surf.
Some guys braved the early mornings however the NE that blew this week
made fishing unpleasant , conditions are only due to improve from tomorrow
afternoon, the SW is blowing now and should settle the wash. Sunday morning we
have a WWSW good for fishing as the wind will come over you back. Tight lines.

Ski Boat.
This week has clearly not been good for fishing
however on Tuesday morning a charter snuck out at first light and were back
almost before the launch hahaha however Sunday is looking good at the moment
and a good place to start will be behind the wreck we seem to be getting some
good fish there at the moment. To the North of us nice big Dorado are coming
out so why not here, the sea temperature has warmed up a lot so who knows ,
give it a shot.
Next events.
In order to accommodate the big boats the Bottoms comp
has been moved to the 29/30 September 2018. The reason for this is because the
silting from the slipway to the first corner has not been washed away as
expected but settled there. The format is the Comp will be fished on the Saturday with the Sunday being a reserve
day, entry fees are ( R350.00 - R450.00) per angler with prizes been awarded
for 1st, 2nd, 3rd then prizes for biggest fish
covering 5 Species. We are hoping to make this an annual event and the reason
we fishing it at this time of the year is that bottom fishing is at its best.
