Lagoon.
Fishing was awful over the weekend big and live baits were left alone
and only the peckers were active, they are a bit like teenagers eating their
folks out of hose and home, the juveniles need to eat as much as possible so
they can grow to get out of the food chain as fast as possible hence they
always feeding.
Surf.
Fishing was awful the side wash pumped and won’t settle till about Monday
evening if the North pushes strong enough today, most of the guys who want to
surf fish have gone through to Richards Bay to fish in the harbor. The North is
pumping today long may it last.
Ski Boat.
With this weekend being a blowout it was off the Richards Bay harbor for
some Garrick fishing and hopefully a decent size cob. Yesterday afternoon while
we were trying to fix my wiper motor we put a table next to the car for the
tools, it did not take long to fill up with quart bottles and bored fishermen
when we were joined by a father son and crew, they had just returned from an unsuccessful
trip on the lagoon, anyway the conversation turned to boating when the son
pipes up “Dad remember when you hit the sand bank coming into the mouth?” All
eyes on Dad…….” We were coming into to the mouth from a trip when my son shouts
‘Sandbank” I hit it and donnered into the channel” (a Kodak moment if ever).
The boy got up from his position on the boat calmly pulled the kill switch and
engaged the motor into neutral tutting to himself waiting for his dad to fight
the current and get himself onto the offending sandbank. I can see him being
nominated for the toilet seat award at the ski boat club. We would like to thank
Mike from the Hungry Fish for donating a massive portion of Crispy Tentacles (oops
nearly spelt that with a S in it) witch went down well.
Next events.
In order to accommodate the big boats the Bottoms comp
has been moved to the 29/30 September 2018. The reason for this is because the
silting from the slipway to the first corner has not been washed away as expected
but settled there. The format is the Comp will be fished on the Saturday with the Sunday being a reserve
day, entry fees are ( R350.00 - R450.00) per angler with prizes been awarded
for 1st, 2nd, 3rd then prizes for biggest fish
covering 5 Species. We are hoping to make this an annual event and the reason
we fishing it at this time of the year is that bottom fishing is at its best.
Entry forms will be available in the shop.
