Lagoon.
Shad are back in the lagoon with some been caught this morning as well
as some Tiger Fish that are living up to the nick name of St Lucia Pest, think
I have mentioned this before, this seems to work, use a big hook even up to 4/0
use a bit of Chokka as backing and add a prawn or Sard to it, this keeps the
peckers around the bait longer and the big fish come to investigate. The crabs
seem to have gone off the bite, in my mind this is good news however for the
guys who like eating them not so good news, at one stage a few weeks ago there
were millions of them, something I learnt the other day is the crabs go out to
sea to release their eggs so maybe they out there now. Years ago I caught a
nice big crab in the surf in the river mouth and thought I had sticks as it
came up to the surface.
Surf.
I have just got back from Kingfisher to do the shopping for the summer
season, it was 2 hrs off “Man Cave Shopping” very interesting seeing all the
stuff, it was so professionally displayed and to cap it all I came away with a
Bunny Chow. What we really enjoy about going to the road show is the tips we
pick up and info about how to use the tackle and what the latest trends are. We
will be stocking Drone Traces as this is becoming more popular and why not, you
can fish and play with a toy at the same time, you now that men are still boys
at heart. We get very good support from Kingfisher and that is why they remain
our choice supplier, this goes back from when we placed our first, we were not
slapped with a minimum like the other suppliers insist on and the quality of
their product is tops.
The nasty side wash is still in the bay and we only expect it to settle
by the 2nd tide tomorrow, this was caused by the big South wind
yesterday wish pushes the natural Northerly current faster. Earlier in the week
the Big Shad were coming out but no Garrick that we know about. Port Dunford
area seems to be the hot spot for Kob.
Ski Boat.
Nothing to report about this week, the local our informants are telling
us nobody fished in the bay, over in Richards Bay Snoek were been caught on
very small spoons.
Next events.
Umlalazi Ski Boat club are planning a “Bottoms Comp” in September around
the weekend of the 22nd to 24th being a public holiday
and the last long weekend before Christmas, we will let you know more detail as
we get it.
