Lagoon.
The lagoon is settling down to the winter season with Cob and Malabar
Rockcod been the prime targets, there were some small Kob in over the weekend
as well as a Hound Shark much to everybody surprise, the list of species caught
in the lagoon is growing and growing, this is a good sign as it must mean we
have a healthy estuarine system. For the birders we have had Spoonbills and Reb
Backed Pelicans visiting, the Spoonbills are still here.
Surf.
A very nice 6 KG Kob was landed in front of the Siyayi on Sunday
morning, it was tagged and released otherwise from the Edible side most of the
fish caught were small Kob. There are still a lot of small sharks in the bay,
just carry on fishing you never know what the next bite could bring. My
informant informed me of a big Raggy caught on the Banks on Saturday evening
however the back ground seems blacked out and as Kevin suspects it could well
have been caught at Port Dunford, well done to those anglers it is a bus of a
fish.
Ski Boat.
Friday saw Firefly boating Couta and Snoek, the one Couta weighed in at
a respectable 20kg but the Snoek were small by their standards and Saturday
they were not so lucky managing a Rockcod and the slow trawl and the boat next
to them a Kob also on a slow trawl. Bottoms were not as abundant as they have
been and the chaps that went to Richards Bay to catch Garrick had no luck. Over
all a quiet weekend fish wise but at least the Couta are still here.
Next events.
Umlalazi Ski Boat club is planning to hold a Bottom
Fishing Competition in August ,
more detail to follow. This is going to happen and the date will be announced
as soon as the sponsor is on board.
