Fishing Report 15 January 2018

Weather for the week.

Tuesday

Rain first thing in the morning S gusting 15 then dies down to 8 during the day. Max temp 26. Barometer 1018 falling to 1014. Wave height 2 period 10.

Wednesday

NE gusting 16 then early in the afternoon the wind swings to an E gusting 25 by the evening. Max temp 33. Barometer 1011 dropping to 1006. Wave height 1.7 period 10.

Thursday

NE gusting 10 then again swings to an E in the afternoon gusting 24 by the evening. Max temp 33. Barometer 1011 dropping to 1007. Wave height 1.7 period 10.

 

Lagoon.

We had a visitor here last week doing fly fishing in the lagoon, mainly in the vicinity of the Cob Farm outlet and was impressed of the amount of fish and species she caught. After the big gillnet incident 10 days ago we would have expected a lot more fish to have been caught but the big ones during the day seem to be very scarce unless you have a boat and can cover more water. The water is getting cleaner again and with the Buster that came through this afternoon the next few days will make beach fishing difficult to head for the lagoon.

 

Surf.

Well Diamonds were a popping however most were caught on beach areas as opposed to the banks, in fact we hear on Sunday no Diamonds were caught on the banks. On Saturday afternoon an angler got picked at the Banks on his Diamond and taken over Glenton Reef and got reefed, they saw the Shark take the Diamond just in front of them but there was no stopping it. For the Edibles anglers main beach produced Snapper Cob and Shad, with some pompano’s. There are still baby Hammer Head Sharks and other small sharks to keep one busy. We have a lot of NE wind coming up in time for next weekend.

 

Ski Boat.

With the NE pumping like it did no boats launched, Sunday morning looked tempting but I think the wind was late it played on everybody’s mind. The water colour was good with the colour line really close to shore, but that is how it goes.

Upcoming Events

Monthly mug on the 4 Feb if the surf is up we will convert it to a River comp only. River boats can enter but will only be eligible for 3^rd prize (first and Second prize reserved for the ski boats).

Kiddie’s clinic to be held on the 27^th at the main carpark at the lagoon area followed by a Bring and Braai at the lappa in the ski boat club. Clinic starts at 14H00 till 16H00, prize giving at 16H30 in the Lappa.
