Fishing Report 28 August 2020
Weather for the Weekend.
This afternoon and tomorrow most of the day will be good fishing days however during the evening on Saturday another cold front comes in making Sunday a wet miserable day.
The lagoon water is very clear again which should mean the Shad will come into the lagoon and stay there, they are known to go up as far as the N2 bridge area. Looks like the best place to fish at the moment is the lagoon and if you can get up towards the mouth try using big baits next to the sand banks for Diamonds, a very big one was lost in the surf at the mouth when they tried to get it over the sand bank.
Not much fishing was done during the week and there were reports of a side wash going from South to North especially in the banks area however grapnel sinkers around 7oz upwards are holding., the water colour is good for fishing and for the walkers Garlands is a good spot as it is deep close inshore, it is a 3km walk South of the main beach. Some bits and bobs were caught during the week mainly at the main beach. The water is colder than normal which sometimes leads to no bites at all as 2 anglers found out after a few hrs of waiting they packed up. Diamond season coming soon.
The Ski Boat club is open again and we had a nice braai there on Wednesday evening even though it was a bit chilly there was a good turnout never the less. Do pop in over the weekend to support the club as it has also gone through a very long lock up. On the 26/27 September the river will be closed to boating as the bike race will be floating a bridge across the river in the area of the R102, boats wanting to go out to sea will have to launch at Garlands, high tide is at lunch time that weekend.
