Great excitement was had over the weekend as the Square Tail Cob been caught in the surf zone made their way into the lagoon, these were decent size fish of 60 to 80cm or 2- 5kg. A very unusual visitor was landed next to the logs at the main car park, 1.2m (Ori 32kg) Zambezi Shark, I did ask for a photograph and am still waiting, this was caught on a live mullet while trying to catch a Cob, this group already had landed 2 of the nice size Cob.
For the first time since we opened we ran out of bait by 10am on Sunday morning and we are very ashamed of that as normally we have enough to last till our weekly delivery, why did this happen, we had a Cob run this weekend and word got out, you know what fisherman are like………watsupping great catches and then their friends come over to join them. Some people were less fortunate and got none, if you catching rats and mice you fishing in a feeding area, stay there, if you not catching the rats and mice move until you do. Main Doggies and Port Dunford were the places to be on Sunday, Saturday the main beaches had a strong side wash to contend with.
Strange old sport, yesterday Ross spent most of the day fishing the Gerries area for Couta with no luck, meanwhile No Fine went to Gerries first thing, got nothing and set off to High Point, blanked there went back to Gerries and boated 3 nice size Couta. Nobody really targeted bottoms but still those that did for a bit while sitting with live bait out got some Cob and the odd Rockcod. There are a few boats out now with another leaving from the beach at about 2 pm for a quick sneaky trip (nice to slip out of the office for some). The water colour in the Bay is stunning but for some they say it is a bit cold, real Barbell come Shark water.
Umlalazi Ski Boat club is planning to hold a Bottom Fishing Competition in August , more detail to follow.
We are planning to hold a Kiddies clinic 2 June at 14H00 o 16H00 in the main Car Park.
Winner takes all will walk away with a river Rod combo.
